Call for Volunteers

Published on 10/21/2019
Hello Everyone - this item is to let you know how you can volunteer in Club activities.  Our Club is able to offer all the wonderful activities because of members who volunteer. There are so many reasons to volunteer - volunteers live longer and are healthier, volunteering establishes strong relationships, volunteering give a sense of purpose. In our Club we have members who love croquet, love people and want to ensure our Club remains strong and vibrant. There are lots of opportunities including:

Tournament Committee - be involved in the planning of  both fun and competitive tournaments. Learn the game and meet BICC members.

Open Tournaments - these 2 tournaments involve hosting north american and international
players while providing opportunity for members to play a lot of games against players from
other clubs. The 2 tournaments for 2020 will be: Open Association and Open Golf. Volunteer
jobs include:
Setup/take down equipment
Billets/accommodation
Social
Food service/logistics
Marshalls/referees

Sponsors

Founders Cup - help with player amenities - food and party.

Facilities - are you handy? Volunteers jobs include maintaining the shed(s), buying tables, chairs and other member needs, capital projects such as the proposed shelters, grounds (flowers, trees).

Membership - do you like to meet people? Membership may be the first contact with the Club, introducing people to the Club, arranging recruitment or recognition events, concierge for the first year of new members.

Turf - would you like to be part of a team that is the envy of the continent? Desperate to know the intricate details of bent grass? mower mechanics? sprinkler systems? drainage?

Pig Roast - this July event is pure fun for members but takes some (loving) work to make it so fun. 2019 was one for the record books in terms of spectacle but it also represented the coming together of members for the pure love of the Club.

Social - there is no question that our Club has a huge social component. We have been so lucky to have members who live to enrich our relationship with each other and croquet. Opportunities to volunteer include:
Coffee & croquet Tues & Fri including skills training
Thursday Croquet & Cocktail Parties
Sunday croquet & toonie burgers

Lessons - would you like to help Bill C and Don C share their love of croquet by helping members get started on the right foot/hand/eye?

So I might have missed something but you get the idea - of our 124 members probably 75% share their time, skills and heart to help our Club. If you think there is an opportunity that appeals to you please contact any member of the Board know you are interested:  Arlene Parker, Dave MacLaren, Nick Howell, Karen Dalton or any Committee Chair.

We are so lucky to have a strong volunteer base and it would be wonderful to share that experience. Please volunteer today.
